What happens at a Couple Therapy Retreat?
On arrival, your friendly host Pete welcomes you and shows you around your accommodation. After time to settle in, your therapist Karen knocks on your front door for a short welcome session in the counselling room within the guesthouse. Karen explains details of the retreat, and you jointly plan a therapy schedule to meet your needs. Outside of sessions, you have exclusive use of the guesthouse.
Therapy sessions are then spread across the duration of your stay, with gaps of at least 1.5 hours between sessions on the same day, keeping evenings free. Between sessions, you may have some brief, light optional ‘homework’. But mostly, you are encouraged to relax and enjoy your breaks, leaving any sensitive conversations for the therapy sessions.
During the day, you can either relax around the guesthouse or take some light exercise around the scenic property or in the pool. You self-cater for your daytime meals, though food for a light breakfast is provided. In the evenings, you either prepare your own meals in the well-equipped kitchen, or travel to a nearby restaurant. During Full Retreats, there is also time during your stay for a short visit to a nearby café, massage therapist or tourist attraction if you wish (we can provide advice or organise this for you on request).
In your final therapy session, with the guidance of your therapist, you review all you have achieved together, and plan how to take what you have learned back into your everyday life. About a fortnight later, you have a follow-up online therapy session with Karen to discuss how you are going, troubleshoot any challenges, and consider whether you would like any further therapy support.
We warmly invite you and your partner to leave your everyday stresses behind … breathe in the fresh air … and let us support you to strengthen what matters so much: your relationship!
